Dr. Allison Mauro, DBT-Linehan Board of Certification™ Certified Clinician, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and owner of Rochester DBT Institute, DBT-Linehan Board of Certification™ Certified DBT Program. Dr. Mauro earned her undergraduate degree at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She earned her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Dr. Mauro has foundational training and advanced training in standard DBT by Behavioral Tech. She also has additional training in DBT with Adolescents (DBT-A) by Dr. Jill Rathus the coauthor of the DBT Adolescent Skills Training Manual, DBT Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents (DBT STEPS-A) by coauthor Dr. James Mazza, and DBT Substance Use Disorders Training by Dr. Nick Salsman.
Prior to returning to Rochester, where she was born and raised, Dr. Mauro worked in the North Shore of Chicago providing evidenced based and comprehensive DBT services to adolescents, adults, couples, and families with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), non-suicidal self-injury, chronic suicidality, complex trauma, transdiagnostic emotion regulation difficulties, eating disorders, substance use disorders, and family issues. Most recently, Dr. Mauro was the Clinical Director and Director of Clinical Training for a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification™ Certified Program and a DBT STEPS-A consultant for elementary, middle school, and high school community school districts.
In the Fall of 2022, Dr. Mauro made the difficult decision to leave her job and move back to Rochester to be closer to family. After looking into a number of employment opportunities in the area, she ultimately decided that she wanted to build a comprehensive DBT practice that met the clinical standards and fostered the supportive team environment that she had had in Chicago, thus, founding Rochester DBT Institute.
Dr. Mauro is passionate about her work and values a therapeutic relationship that allows for humor and empathy as well as hard work and commitment to change. She believes everyone is capable of finding balance and the synthesis needed to build a full and meaningful life. Dr. Mauro also takes pride in practicing balance within her own life, which includes yoga, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Mauro is active in the DBT Community as a volunteer for the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification (DBT-LBC). She is a mentor in the Individual Mentorship Program for DBT-LBC Clinician Certification and a program site reviewer for DBT-LBC Program Certification.
Dr. Mauro is also proud to support the Rochester community as a member of the Membership and Outreach Committee for Genesee Valley Psychological Association (GVPA), a member of the Golisano Children's Hospital Associate Board, and a DBT Consultant for Hillside Children's Center.
Shannon Marthillo, PhD,
Post-Doctoral Fellow
Dr. Shannon Marthillo received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University at Buffalo, followed by a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Health Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Marthillo specializes in suicide prevention, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and crisis
intervention. Her interest in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) began in 2013 as an undergraduate research assistant at the University at Buffalo. In 2017, she began training in DBT and gained experience in DBT research at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Throughout her graduate studies, she worked as part of a comprehensive DBT treatment team for adolescents and their parents in a community mental health settings. During her postdoctoral fellowship at ROCDBT, Dr. Marthillo further refined her skills through advanced DBT training, including foundational DBT training by Behavioral Tech and specialized DBT-Prolonged Exposure (PE) training under Dr. Melanie Harned. Relatedly, Dr. Marthillo holds a
certificate of proficiency in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) through the California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions. Dr. Marthillo provides trauma-informed, evidence-based care to adults and adolescents who have experienced various forms of abuse and complex trauma.
In addition to her trauma and DBT work, Dr. Marthillo has a strong background in suicide prevention. She previously volunteered as a crisis counselor for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at the Suicide Prevention Center in Los Angeles, California, and for Crisis Text Line. She holds the CAMS-Trained designation for Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality, an evidence-based suicide treatment framework, and has undergone extensive
training in suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention, and safety planning through the Zero Suicide Institute and the American Association of Suicidology (AAS). Dr. Marthillo has led numerous workshops and training sessions on suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and DBT for clinical teams, graduate students, and community organizations. Dr. Marthillo’s dissertation examined suicide risk factors—such as hopelessness, social disconnection, and psychological
pain—focusing on how these factors contribute to suicidal thoughts and behaviors within ideation-to-action frameworks.
Her background in Health Psychology further informs her work, as she understands the complex relationship between physical health and mental well-being. She applied and strengthened this knowledge during her training at Miller Children’s Hospital and The Guidance Center’s Whole Child Program in Long Beach, California, where she worked with children and adolescents with chronic illnesses, eating disorders, and functional neurological disorders. Dr. Marthillo also received specialized training in eating disorder treatment during her externship at Eating Disorder Therapy, LA, where she utilized Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), Family-Based Therapy (FBT), and group therapy to treat adults and adolescents struggling with disordered eating behaviors.
Melanie Weber, PsyD,
Post-Doctoral Fellow
Dr. Melanie Weber received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the State University of New York Brockport and her Doctoral degree in Clinical/School Psychology from Roberts Wesleyan College.
Dr. Weber completed her school psychology internship at Plank Road Elementary School in Webster, where she implemented evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), along with Play Therapy techniques. She then completed her clinical pre-doctoral internship at Newfane Public High School, further honing her skills in DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
Prior to her work at ROCDBT, Dr. Weber pursued postdoctoral training at Victor Counseling Practice, providing individual therapy for children and adolescents. In addition, she has worked within the Webster School District as a school psychologist in the One Webster Learning (OWL) Program, served as a district-wide Behavioral Specialist for grades K-12, and contracted with the district to support district needs (e.g. evaluation procedures, program support, screenings).
Dr. Weber has foundational training in standard DBT from Behavioral Tech and works with adults, adolescents, and families facing complex needs. In her clinical practice, she employs a comprehensive DBT framework to help clients develop essential skills for managing intense emotions, improving relationships, and enhancing their overall quality of life. Dr. Weber creates a supportive and collaborative therapeutic environment, enabling clients to explore their challenges and build resilience.
Her clinical experience extends to therapy, psychological assessment, and consultation services within an Inpatient Neurorehabilitation Center, a college counseling center, and a community mental health center. She has been specialty trained in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA). Most recently, she attended a training titled “Tailoring DBT to be More Effective and Affirming for Autistic Clients” by Dr. Amara Brook and Rachel Leah Kraus, LCSW-C.
Dr. Weber is passionate about working with diverse populations and utilizes her extensive clinical skills to meet her patients’ needs effectively. Her self-care includes reading thrillers, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with her two larger-than-life dogs (Great Dane & Doberman).
Rochester DBT Institute (ROCDBT) is excited to announce that we are seeking a DBT Clinician!
Position Overview:
This position is designed for a early-career mental health clinician seeking to expand and strengthen their clinical skills under the supervision of an experienced DBT team.
Clinician will provide evidence-based clinical services for teens and adults in outpatient DBT programming.
Clinician will carry their own caseloads and provide all modes of treatment including individual therapy, family therapy, skills training, and coaching.
Clinician will be part of the DBT Consultation Teams.
Clinician will have opportunity to deliver services across all stages of DBT, including:
Stage 1: High acuity with life-threatening behavior targets
Stage 2: PTSD and/or emotional experiencing
Stage 3 & 4: Targeting of continued symptoms after behavioral control & PTSD symptoms have been stabilized
Training & Supervision:
Clinician will participate in the foundational DBT training with BTech
Funding for external training and conferences may be provided
Clinician will engage in weekly:
Group supervision
Individual supervision
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for the position is $60,000-75,000 per year
Paid sick leave; 40 hours per calendar year
